LG is bringing out a new touch screen only phone (well, almost touch screen only); no one seems to be minding this humble little device but it certainly caught our attention.

The GD510 or the ‘Pop’ is a basic 3G phone that uses a 3 inch touch screen display and a single multi functional button. It has not been confirmed if the screen is a multi touch display but it does handle all of the mobile phone’s functions.

One of the most remarkable add on features for the Pop is the optional backing with solar panel. Yep, in today’s day and age, eco-friendly devices such as this are what we need. While the actual conversion rate is small (delivering a little over 2 minutes of talk time for every 10 minutes of sunlight), small details like these help a lot. The full specifications of the panels have yet to be released.

Cute and Simple

Most LG GD510 Pop reviews will tell you that this phone’s has got serious style and form, and they are right. The thin edge surrounding the screen has that subtle feeling of viewing a flat screen television set. The light gray color seems a little user-specific at first glance, but the chrome grows on you. This phone undoubtedly looks a whole lot better with the optional solar panel backing attached too.

The 3 inch touch screen on the back has a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. The display delivers nice and clear images though the brightness is still low even at the highest settings. Aside from the touch screen, the device does feel a little lacking with features. No WiFi or 3G HSDPA, but it does support EDGE and GPRS. The camera is a little better in terms of standards, staying at 3 mega pixels (the common smart phone average).

Where to Get

There are LG GD510 Pop deals on various carriers such as T-Mobile, Orange UK, O2 and Vodafone. The Pop is available for free on various plans.
